A friend of mine is hosting a domain name and hosting service from Exabytes. However due to own reasons, he decided not to maintain the hosting service, but at the same time he need the domain name to be pointing to his blogspot.

I gave him few options:

1. Do a url cloaking using frames, or
2. Do a url redirection via the cpanel, or
3. Do a dns update and point to blogspot

He made a wise decision with the DNS update. So I created a ticket and requested Exabytes to create 2 CNAMEs as instructed by blogger. Ahh, the domain is registered with MYNIC, the worst domain management panel I have ever known. Me myself is able to login to MYNIC, but not enough permission to change the DNS. Not to mention that I have separate accounts for each domain I hosted with MYNIC. So I still need to trouble Exabyte for the changes to take place.

After confirming with Exabytes about adding the CNAME entries, I tried to update blogger panel but was not successful.

I was getting busy and almost forgot about this, a week pass by, then my friend keep reminding about the domain update. That was the time I tried to look for DNS hosting service so I will not bother Exabytes about this again. So I found ClouDNS.net, it’s free for the first 3 domains and full-featured, plus the interface is quite cool. So free job is for the free dns service, yes it is.

I managed to get houri.com.my working with CloudDNS. So that’s it, pretty straight forward for setting up a self-own domain blogger site. What I just did:

1. Register for ClouDNS.net account
2. Add 2 CNAME entries (refer blogger)
3. Add 4 A entries (refer blogger)
4. Ask my registrar to point to ClouDNS DNS servers (4 servers)
5. Update blogger.com settings.
